In the movie version of Carl Sagan's "Contact", this is a moment that has continually helped me to reconcile some of the conflicting beliefs within myself:

Ellie: [speaking about the existence of God] I don't know. I think in order for me to be able to buy into something that big--I'd need proof."

Palmer: "...Did you love your father?"

Ellie: "What?"

Palmer: "Your father, did you love him?"

Ellie: "Yes. Very much."

Palmer: "Prove it."
