today
On the way to work today, I was behind a Toyota Prius waiting on the drawbridge to just draw already. It had a bunch of bumper stickers on it, and as I read them I experienced that taken-aback feeling that you get when you expect one thing and are delivered something completely different. All of the stickers read things like "Say no to socialism", "Drill here. Drill now. Pay less.", and "NO-bama." On top of which, the car had a Texas license plate.
Normally, I'll just roll my eyes and say "geezus" to myself under my breath when I see cars like this. But I was ok with this person. Because they were driving a hybrid car. Even though this person's reasons for buying a car like this were almost certainly more financial than environmental. Even though brazen bumper sticker politics irritate me no matter what the party affiliation. I think that no matter how staunchly, Bushly republican this person was, the fact that they elected to buy a Prius puts us on the same side, in a small way. Its a very bipartisan car.

there's no mercy in a live wire/ no rest at all in freedom
Some songs are only great when sung by the original songwriter. I don't know why. Maybe the original songwriter is the only one who understands the emotional origin of the song, and is therefore the only one who can render it the way it was intended. I say this because I am a huge fan of both the Dixie Chicks (most retarded name for one of the best bands ever, if I may say so) and Patty Griffin. The Dixie Chicks are also fans of Patty Griffin, because they have covered two of her songs on past albums. But for me, both times the experience has been the same; the Dixie Chicks cover is very good, but the Patty Griffin version speaks to me and leaves me floored. Check out both versions of these songs on youtube and let me know if I'm alone:
Let Him Fly*
Dixie Chicks
Patty Griffin
Top of the World
Dixie Chicks
Patty Griffin
*Jessica Simpson also covers this song, and for the love of god don't listen to it first, it is fucking terrible. Also, don't listen to either of these if you are in a fragile state of mind, they make me boohoo even when I am feeling great.

new same-sex crush alert
Um, her name is Orianthi Panagaris, just google her and you will feel the same. She was Michael Jackson's last lead electric guitarist, and I saw her play for the first time when I was watching This Is It the other night. What is it even like to be this badass, I'm not sure I could handle the pressure.

Remember that time I ate an entire bag of mini reeses cups and then spent the rest of the morning afraid I was going to lapse into an irreversible diabetic coma? Oh wait, I'm currently living that memory--my b yall.

what you're about to read is extremely eloquent
You know, everyone experiences self-pity from time to time. Under the right circumstances it can even be fun in a slightly sick way--you sit alone, think of what a hard time you are having in life right now, make yourself cry. Then look in the mirror and take note of the way the tears reflect light from your face and eyes, you look like you're in a movie! Everyone does some version of this from time to time.
But this is in private. When self-pity goes public it becomes a whole new level of pathetic. And I've been seeing it everywhere lately, what with facebook being the ultimate outlet for private sentiments that people secretly want made public. And the worst in my mind are the ones who have a problem, know what it is, but instead of fixing it choose to nurture and exploit it because they know it will always draw a certain amount of attention and concern. "Ehhhhwww, I'm damaged and have commitment issues because my mom didn't pay enough attention to me and my dad forgot to throw me a birthday party when I turned four." Fuck four! Get over it quit trying to elicit attention from your ex-girlfriend because you need one more guest in attendance at your pity party. Oh, and instead of drinking a handle of Jack every night and writing some bullshit emo song about the dark caverns of your aching soul, why don't you go out and find a goddamn job already. Grow up asshat, you're 26 years old for chrissakes.
Ok so this entry started out a little more subtle. Anyway, jonathan is really irritating me lately. The end.
